Colours are one of the things you notice when you travel. Colourful street art, colourful and exotic fruit, colourful clothes, colourful market stalls…
This week I’ve learnt a bit about the colour yellow from an art therapy magazine which inspired me to take a look through my travel photos and pick out pops of yellow.
The colour yellow stands for optimism. It can stimulate the mind and spark creative ideas too. Yellow can also bring clarity and stillness to the mind as well as being associated with royalty in some countries. I’ve found yellow in…
A relaxed looking chair close to Marseille, France.
A single flower in Vilches, Chile.
The autumnal leaves in Warwick, England.
These juicy yellow lemons paired with oysters in Rome, Italy.
A lone yellow leaf outside of Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
A beautiful flower in the grounds of the Royal Palace in Phnon Penh, Cambodia.
Doouble lines leading from Mendoza, Argentina to Santiago de Chile. Up and through the mountains!
Two lemons to accompany some fresh ceviche on Navidad beach, Chile.
The delicious flavours of Dal Bhat, Chitwan, Nepal.
This Carnival float in Rio, Brazil.
This Brazil Flag hanging on the beach in Florianópolis, Brazil.
The side of a house in Valparaiso, Chile.
A sign welcoming you, in Peru.
A yellow slide against the mountains in Santiago, Chile.
These vibrant yellow flowers on a rainy day in Dublin, Ireland.
Do you notice colours when you travel? What does yellow make you think of?

This is such a fun post! I can imagine how much fun you must have had searching through your old pictures! I love the pictures of the single yellow flower and the yellow slide. I LOVE the color yellow! It’s one of my favorites. But I don’t have a clear or still mind, lol!
Thanks Anna 🙂
Hahaha, welllll it says that if you like the colour yellow then you are creative and unafraid to think for yourself. You are also cheerful and good at communicating… Maybe that is more fitting?
Oooh I love the idea of picking your favourite travel photos by colours. Great shots!
Thank you Jessi! It made me look at my photos in a different way and I’ll definitely look at some other colours soon! 🙂
Love love love these colours!! So much – a post like this is super inspiring, I mean colour patterns yay…am I weird?
Anyhow – I was just thinking seeing that park in front of the mountains in Santiago – how things have changed and yet not so much. That park reminds me of the park in that photo of me as a child in 1991 🙂
Thanks so much, Camila! I loved that day of beautiful mountains views as they weren’t usually as clear as that – it was after a day of rain in the park by Carlos’ old flat.
I love how you did this, and how it reflects so many places you’ve been to! I’ve seen “color’ posts focused on one specific place, so it was cool to see a different take on honing in on a color throughout your travel photos. Yellow is a great color – I think it conveys energy and positivity 🙂
I love those colour posts too and I love the way people see different colours as representing the same city. So fun! I agree – yellow is definitely an energy colour 🙂
Love this post! My favorite color is yellow 🙂 Love how you have old pictures from all your travels for this post! My faves are probably the side of the house and the lemons!
Thank you! So is it true what they say about people who love yellow then? 😉 It was fun picking through my photos.
How I love the color yellow. I didn’t even know it was suppose to make you happy but it really does! There’s something so life giving about it – I suppose since the sun is yellow and all…
You’re right – the sun must be the biggest giver of happiness in the world! 🙂
I love this idea for a post! Yellow is such a happy colour, I can definitely see how it is associated with optimism! So many great shots, but I really love that one of the slide and the mountains in Chile.
Thanks Sara! I love that photo as it was the day arrived I moved to Chile and so has great memories attached to it 🙂
You know, I notice bright colors but never thought to be more aware of the colors and having them as a theme, if you will. I really like this idea and will have to pay more attention during my next travels. Great photos. No wonder the color yellow makes me so happy:) Thank you for sharing!
I’m glad you enjoyed reading it! I wouldn’t say I was that aware of the colour yellow when I took the photos but it was fun to look through my photos and pick out yellow, most of these photos were taken so many years ago so it’s great to re-live the moments 🙂
Great photos! The yellow is truly striking in many of them. Yellow always makes me think of education. Maybe because the school buses are yellow in the States. This makes me want to look through my travel photos for pops of specific colors!
Thanks Andrea! Let me know if you do a similar post, I’d love to see it. I can imagine – I love the US school buses, they are so iconic!
I love the idea for this post! Yellow is actually my favourite colour, it reminds me of a happy face, and being cheerful. I love the shot of the yellow chair in Marseille, France. It pops out so much in contrast to the beige wall.
Yay for yellow then! I loved those cute looking chairs, they looked so inviting in the sun 🙂
Oh wow, great pictures!! You’ve been everywhere. So cool 🙂
Thanks Isabel 🙂
LOVEEE the way you set this up by colors! So fun!
Thanks Sara!
Wonderful photos! I love the idea of searching out different colors as I travel. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Patti, I’m glad you like them 🙂
This is such a good idea for a post! I loved looking through all of your photos! I’m actually working on a colorful travel post right now! Colors are one of my favorite things to look for while traveling! Yellow reminds me of spring and warm weather! Such a happy color 😀
Thanks Lauren – I’m glad you liked it! I’m looking forward to seeing your colourful post too 🙂
This is SUCH a cool idea!!! Love the photos, of course, and am totally inspired to do some color-themed photo essays in the future!
Thanks Christy. Let me know if you do one, I’d love to see 🙂
I love these kind of posts, they’re so fun to put together! It’s cool to look back through photos and find certain themes or colors that you photograph. Yellow is definitely a happy, cheerful color!
Definitely! I love looking through old photos 🙂 So fun to relive the memories!
