This Saturday marks two years in Chile (this time around, as there were the other ten months in 2010-2011).
Two years since Carlos and I flew from London with no jobs, no home and just five suitcases of all of our belongings between us. Two years since I felt the most terrified I’ve felt. And two years feeling that it really was nowhere as scary as I thought it would be!
Two years sounds like a long time to me, it sounds like a fair chunk of time. Yet, if you ask me how long I’ve lived in Chile, I would probably say one year. I’d never say two… it just doesn’t feel like two.
On the other hand, we’ve done so much in two years and been through so many changes. So, these are my two years in numbers:
1 year
24 months
5 interviews for…
1 job (the longest selection process I’ve known)
2 homes
1 wedding
1 honeymoon {Colombia}
4 return international flights (Lima, Peru | Cartagena, Colombia | London x 2)
5 return domestic flights (Arica | Temuco | Puerto Montt | Balmaceda | Punta Arenas)
Thousands of times feeling grateful for the Internet that allows me to be in touch with home so easily
13 weeks of teacher holidays per year!
1 bike bought and used a lot!
Thousands of photos taken
5 trips to my favourite colourful city, Valparaiso.
Many mountains climbed and loved
Days craving for London
1 knitting project completed
1 car bought
4 blogger friends met
… and many more made online
7 years celebrated with Carlos and almost 2 married
2 visits from my parents
0 concerts (but 2 coming up in the next month)
38 degrees of melting (the hottest temperature I’ve felt in Chile yet)
Hundreds of sunsets enjoyed
Too many amazing yoga classes attended to count
5 food safari evenings
4 x 500g of marmite consumed!
Many great friends made
1 blog linkup created (yay for Wanderful Wednesday)
4 weddings attended (and 3 coming up before the end of the year)
10 visits from friends across the globe (6 of these for our wedding)
Many Chilean words learnt
… let’s see what else is in store!

That’s crazy that you’ve already been in Chile for two years! I swear I don’t know what I’d do without the internet because it really is the best way to stay in contact with friends and family, even if they’re on a different continent altogether!

This is excellent! Love the recap. When you live outside from the place you were raise, you keep counting the years. I think it doesn’t matter how long it was. Glad you have found a home in Chile. Latin American countries rock! So many vacation weeks – I want tohose!
Thanks Ruth! I always find it important to mark the milestones and reflect 🙂
