Desert Blooms in Llanos de Challe National Park

If you read my post from last week, you’ll have learnt all about the magical phenomenon of Desierto Florido (Flowing Desert), that is currently happening in Chile.  You’ll have seen how the world’s driest desert has turned into a gorgeous purple colour (check out this post before this one, as it’ll all make much sense!)

I knew we were going to see the purple patches when we took our long weekend trip to explore.  But, I didn’t realise how many other gorgeous colours and textures we would see too.  Within the desert, there is a national park called Llanos de Challe, which is currently brimming with colour.  Of course, this desert is usually very dry and sand coloured!  Probably with just cactus.  However, it is currently hosting an amazing show of flowers of every colour.DSC_0007DSC_0020DSC_0030It’s hard to believe that usually, the greens were saw are not usually there, let alone this array of rainbow coloured delights…DSC_0074DSC_0071DSC_0043DSC_0009We took a short path around part of the park (which took about 90mins), where we got to admire all of the flowers and see a gorgeous coastal view too. DSC_0003DSC_0050DSC_0023DSC_0053DSC_0057DSC_0069DSC_0032There really were some special flowers there.  Including flowering cactus, which were amazing.  I can’t say that I have seen a flowering cactus out in nature before!DSC_0033DSC_0051DSC_0034Getting to see Desierto Florido in real life was amazing!  It was better than I expected it to be, despite everyone telling me that I’d be wonderful.  Chile really does know how to put on a nature show!  I really had to keep reminding myself that we were in fact in the middle of the desert.DSC_0029DSC_0045DSC_0039DSC_0025DSC_0018

Have you been blown away by a magical natural event?

  1. I had to remind myself when I was reading your post that you were still in the desert! All of the flowers are so beautiful, and I never would have expected the desert to be so vibrant! That’s so awesome that y’all were able to experience it!

  2. So many fun colors! So cool that you got to witness all of this! I think it’s so cool that there’s a desert next to the ocean, ha! I keep forgetting Spring down there! I was just thinking how it’s so cool you’re getting all these flowers in the fall, then remembered lol

  3. You always have the best pictures! And these desert blooms just blew me away. Who knew the desert could have such pretty flowers?? I’ve obviously never really been to one 😉

  4. Ahhh You’re photos are making me want to go SO bad! I really hope I can get up there before it’s all over haha .. I had no idea this area was so close to the coast! Looks like you guys had a blast!
