Here in the Southern Hemisphere, we are preparing for Spring.
In Santiago, Spring is most definitely in the air; buds are opening while pink and white blossoms are lining the pavements. The air has a warmer feel to it, the days are longer and the sky is bluer. Spring is probably my favourite season here in Santiago (I’d choose Summer in London!), as the temperature is perfect; sunny and warm but not swelteringly hot, like it can be in the summer. Needless to say, I am excited for the change of the season.
Whats more, September is an exciting month all over Chile as Chileans celebrate their National day on 18th September, which gives the country two public holidays. This year they fall on Monday and Tuesday – hello 4-day weekend! And, lucky enough my school has the whole week off. So, for the four day weekend, we already have planned a fun adventure north of Santiago, which I’ll be sharing here soon. It’s going to be special!
So, before we Spring out of Winter… and into Spring! Here is what has been happening around here lately:
Settling :: We have lived in our new flat for three months now, and we are fully settled in. It didn’t take long to settle in at all and we are loving how much quieter this new flat is as we moved away from a main road. We love it!
Knitting :: When my mum was here in July, she taught me how to knit and I am just about to finish my very own scarf. I love it and have got two of my friends here on board too. Are any of you keen knitters?
Planning :: Spring and summer adventures. We have a good few public holidays coming up (those two in September and two long weekends in October so we have had some initial ideas of where we can visit), plus my brother is coming to visit next February so we are planning a trip to the desert then!
Reading :: I am currently reading Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult, and I am loving it! What can you recommend at the moment?
Preparing :: to soon reach two years in Chile. How did that happen?! (It’ll be two years on 4th November, which will be here before we know it… crazy!!)
Driving :: (Passager-ing in my case) – we bought a car, which means that our weekends just got a whole lot more exciting.
Swooning :: Over Torres del Paine. Almost two months down the line, I am still almost weekly drooling over my photos from the south of Patagonia, I just can’t get over how beautiful everything was.
Watching :: Narcos! Because it’s my favourite thing ever and Carlos and I somehow managed to watch four episodes of the new series in the first two days… oops! I am also watching the new Great British Bake Off and Educating Greater Manchester.
Yogaing :: Always! I am still always yogaing. My yoga teacher also just trained in yin yoga so I get to enjoy that too! I used to go to yin yoga in London and loved it so I am so glad that I now get to enjoy it here in Santiago too!
Counting :: Down the days until London – 23rd December, I am waiting for you! It’ll be my first London Christmas since 2014 and I just can’t wait! 😀
So, Spring… let’s go! How has your Summer/Winter been and what’s happening for you in Spring/Autumn?

The first picture of the gate is beautiful!!
Knitting: I have my yarn sitting right beside me to start knitting my very first thing ever!! Probably a scarf! I just finished crocheting a scarf tonight!
Reading: I love Jodi Picoult! I just finished Handle with Care about a month ago!
Thank you; it was a stunning gate I spotted this time last year in Lima.
Ahh nice! That’s so exciting. I hope you enjoy the knitting, we will have to compare scarves 😉
And for reading, I’ve never read a Jodi Picoult book before but I’ll be finished with this one soon and then I’m sure I’ll look for some more!
Yes we will😉 She’s very good, at least I think so haha
Breathtaking photos! I’m so jealous that you get to stay in such a heavenly place. Hope you enjoy your upcoming stay in London!
Thank you!
And thanksss, it’s still a while ago but I know December will be here very soon!
It was so good to feel like I was catching up with you and what’s been going on in your world lately! I like knitting as a winter hobby although I still can make only scarves. And I will have to put that book on my list! I need a good read, man. I’ve only tried yin yoga a couple times and I just can not get into it. When would you recommend doing it? It is just really restorative, right? Usually I just wanna flow 😛
Thanks, I’ve felt in a bit of a blogging slump so it was good just to re-cap before starting a new season and getting some new posts ready!
I know what you mean about winter and knitting, I’ll have to see if I feel like I want to keep at it when it’s 36 degrees outside! If not.. I’ll stick to reading 😉 (and definitely put the book on your list!)
Yin yoga is very slow, yes! You hold a single pose for between 3-8 mins which means it can still be very intense, and also meditative. Maybe it depends on the teacher? But the two I’ve had have made me fall in love with it!!
Maybe I’ll have to give yin another try then!
I hope you find somewhere great!
Always so strange to read your blog. As you’re prepping for Spring, Fall is already knocking at our door here in Germany, a month early! #WanderfulWednesday
Ohh, I hope you are loving the leaves changing colour! Spring definitely came early here too as I saw the first blossoms in the middle of July when it should have been the depths of winter!
Nice post. you wanted to know what your readers are reading at the moment. On my nightstand is a book called: Mornings in Jenin, which I can highgly recommen.#wanderfulwednesday
Thank you, I’ll have to check it out! I always love getting book recommendations!
I love your sandals and I’d love to get a car too! Exploring and doing stuff is just so much easier if it doesn’t involve a long and boring bus ride 😀 Does that mean we get to see even more mountain vistas in the future? Yes please!! 🙂
Thank you! That sandal photo was taken last summer, but it’ll be time to get them out soon, yay!
And yesss, the car means that we can definitely explore lots more soon, and mountains will top of the list!
Small great things is such a fantastic book! I read it while I was in Panama in January and absolutely fell in love with Jodi Picoult’s writing!
Isn’t it?! I am loving it! I’ve never read anything by her before but I must look into some of her other books!
Can’t wait to see your scarf! I think I would enjoy knitting. I don’t think I can get over the reverse seasons, I’m dying for fall here since it has been so hot!
Thanks Christine! I think it should be finished by this weekend 🙂 yay!
I bet! Hope Autumn comes for you soon!
Ooh I just love update posts. Sounds like you’ve been very busy and have so much to look forward to! I am also going home for Christmas so I’m really excited about that (although I will have left the UK by the time you arrive!). I don’t have many good books to recommend at the moment (I’m currently reading something called The Fatherland which is an “if-the-nazis-won” type mystery and just a beachy read but still good!)
That’s a shame that we’ll miss each other, that would have been fun to meet 🙂 And thanks, I felt like an update post was needed and I love reading them too!
Spring definitely looks like it has sprung! So gorgeous! I would be swooning over Patagonia still too! I can’t wait to get there someday.
It really is the most beautiful place, I can ever get enough! I hope you make it there too 🙂
So many awesome plans! You guys have so many holidays. That is one thing I miss about Latin countries. And, London should be very nice on Christmas! #wanderfulwednesday
There certainly seem to be more at the end of the year which is a good thing as the school year draws to a close! And yes, I’m so excited to spend Christmas with my family at home 😀
Beautiful photos! And here in the Northern Hemisphere I’m wishing that fall would come sooner. I am done with the heat! Also so excited for you to spend Christmas in London!
I bet! Autumn will be just around the corner 🙂 And thanks, I can’t wait!!
It’s so crazy because it’s finally starting to feel like fall here in the US, and I’m loving it! Although Spring is definitely amazing because I love seeing everything in bloom. That’s so awesome that you’re getting to go home for Christmas! I bet that it’ll be nice to have a cold Christmas as opposed to a hot one in Chile! And Narcos really is so good! I can’t wait until the new season comes out!
Yay! Enjoy all those Autumn colours! The new Narcos it out – it came out last Friday, that’s the one we have been racing through already 😀
September is always my favourite month, especially because of the 18th. We´ve never had an independence day, because we always did the invading! Plus it is a time when Chileans, especially those in the cities, stop pretending to be North Americans, at least for a couple of days. Feliz 18!
Happy 18th, enjoy celebrating!! 🙂
Sometimes it’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that spring is just starting for you down there—while fall is about to begin here! I bet the spring down there is so beautiful. Can’t wait to see where you go on holiday 🙂
Funny, isn’t it! I never thought about it much until moving to the Southern Hemisphere. Thanks, Amy! So excited for our long weekend.
I’m so happy that it’s September! One of my favorite months down here in Chile. I love how festive and happy everyone is this month! It’s like Christmas back home 😀 I can’t believe you’ve been in the new flat for so long now and I still haven’t seen it! I know we’ve been really busy lately, but I need to see you soon! Miss you! And CONGRATS on the car! Had no idea and that’s so amazing! Can’t wait to see where it will bring you 😀
Totally agree! Christmas is so low key in comparison to September! And yesss, the car is exciting, we are ready for all of the adventures!!
The pic of the beautiful dark-pink/purple bougainvillea really caught my eye. We’re also heading into Spring now (I’m in Cape Town) and all the beautiful colours and wondering fragrances in the gardens is something very special! Happy Spring in Chile 🙂
I jealous you moved to a quieter new flat, that’s what I want to do (as I’m listening to my neighbors music from the next building). I keep forgetting it’s spring now here too as most of the year is just warm, slightly warmer and hot.
Oh as always, such lovely photos! It is really proper autumn here in London now… leaves on the ground and a chill in the air! I also loved Small Great Things. I’ve just read Tender Is The Night for the first time and found it unusual but enthralling.
Your Patagonia photos really looked amazing! How exciting that you’re getting a car, since you love to explore so much, that will make a huge difference. 🙂 xx
Thanks Nano! We had our first big big trip this weekend, I can’t wait to share it!
Looking forward to reading about it!
