Summer, Summer, Summer Time!

Summer in December?  It’s easy to forget that for those of us living in the Southern Hemisphere, summer is here!  dsc07546

As a primary school teacher here in Chile I am lucky to be treated to nine weeks of summer holiday.  Which is a crazy long time!  As I write this, I have two weeks left at school and then I am off until the end of February.

So, Summer is a great time for planning adventures, both locally and afar too.  Here is how my plans are shaping up so far for this summer:

Christmas :: 24,25 Dec.

I will be spending Christmas with Carlos’ family who live just outside of Santiago.  We will spend Christmas in the least Christmassy way for me: by the pool with a BBQ.  I don’t know that a Summer Christmas will ever really feel like Christmas for me, but I do know that it’s still lots of fun!!  DSC04397

Anniversary:: 26 Dec.

The 26th December marks our one year wedding anniversary which means we will celebrate with our favourite food, Indian.Matrimonio Marcella y Carlos 0350

London :: 27 Dec – 14 Jan.

I’m really lucky to be heading home to London again.  This time I am going for two-and-a-half weeks and I can’t wait to catch up with family and friends as well as soaking up that real wintery Christmas feeling.DSC00081

Coyhaique and Carretera Austral :: 1-15 Feb

Carlos and I are heading to the south of Chile (Patagonia) for our summer holiday this year.  We are going to be spending 15 days adventuring around Coyhaique and The Carratera Austral, an area that is known for its stunning natural beauty.  We aren’t going to plan much, as our travelling style is very much a ‘go with the flow one’, but we are planning to combine a mix of camping, cabins and B&Bs.  So excited to explore a new area of Chile.

And now, plans that aren’t set, but that I’d like to happen:

Valparaíso

I haven’t been to my favourite city, Valpo, since April!  So I am well overdue a trip to the most colourful city, especially as it is oh so close to Santiago!DSC06037

Beach time

Summer isn’t complete without a few days at the beach and since Santiago is so close to the beach, I am sure that I’ll head to the beach for a few days with some of my friends from work.DSC05694

Camping

There are a few beaaaaautiful spots close to Santiago that I would like to explore this summer!

What are your Summer/Winter or Christmas plans?

Marcella xx

  1. So many cool plans! So jealous of how long the vacations are. In Mexico we usually get 4 weeks, but here in Slovenia we barely get one, so bizarre given how festive people get but any way. Enjoy your travels!! Glad to see you are feeling better! xx

  2. Sounds like some fun plans. I’ll admit, it threw me for a loop that the title was talking about summer. I thought that you were just planning really far in advance. But after reading, it makes sense. It’s hard for me to think about summer when there’s snow on the ground and the temperature is in the teens. #wanderfulwednesday

  3. Nine weeks! Holy moly! So much time for so much fun stuff 🙂 I’m extremely jealous of your Patagonia plans, I’ve wanted to go there for the longest time. It sounds like you’ll have a blast, and going with the flow sounds like something I’d like to do but I’m too much of a planning freak 😦 Anyway I can’t wait to read all about it.

    If you get a small gap in your schedule when you come to London perhaps we could meet for coffee? No pressure as I’m sure you’ve got a long list of people to see. Is Carlos coming? If so perhaps he and S could have a mini reunion…

    • I knowww, nine weeks is crazy!! Haha, the thought of planning out every part of my holiday is a nightmare for me. So glad we are all different 😉
      Would love to meet up, let’s be in touch to see if we can manage it! It’ll just be me though as Carlos isn’t on holiday during that time 😀

  4. All of your plans sound like so much fun, but kind of a bummer that you won’t get to experience a London winter until after Christmas. Either way I know that you’ll be excited to go home for a little while, and all of your other plans in South America sound like so much fun!

  5. Oh man, crazy to think that it’s summer in December where you are. However, its super amazing that you get so much time off for the summer holiday. Sounds like these next couple of weeks are going to be great. Christmas, Wedding Anniversary, then London! Enjoy these moments Marcella! 🙂

  6. Sounds like a great summer plan! Congratulations on your anniverary too – my husband and I will celebrate 1 year on January 7th. Lots of exciting plans ahead! We’ll be back in NZ over Christmas then back to Fiji then to Japan for a ski holiday – so the next couple of months will be very busy! We have a summer Christmas too so it will be a big shock to the system when we arrive in a wintery Japan – but can’t wait!

  7. Wow! Those are some really exciting times. We have a shutdown the last week of the year, so, I am taking advantage of that. My last day of work will be Dec 15. I am going to New York and Philadelphia and hope to cram a little end of year mini trip. Have a fun time! #wanderfulwednesday

  8. 9 weeks? That is crazy, but boy oh boy what a time you can have … and what a time you have planned! I love your trips away, you are covering all bases although it will be a shock going from Southern Hemisphere Summer to brrrrr Northern Hemisphere London winter. I hope you have a truly fabulous Christmas and will catch up with stories from your travels in the New Year! #WanderfulWednesday

  9. Wow!! You are going to cover a lot of ground soon!! I think I’d like to spend a Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere at least once…. Europe is FREEZING right now!! 😉
