When people ask me how long I’ve lived in Chile (this time around, because of course there were the ten months in 2010-2011 too!), I am so used to saying “I just got here a few months ago…”
Until now, when I can officially say one year {As of the 4th November}. Time has flown by and I can’t quite believe that it really is a year! And what a year it’s been; full to the brim of changes, adventures and settling into ‘normal’ life.
I’ve thought about how I would mark the one year on my blog and initially thought of writing about my favourite adventures of the year, but then I thought I’d save that post until the end of 2016 instead as there might be a few more adventures squeezed in before then. So, I am posting photos that I feel symbolise this year in Chile.
Sunsets :: Admiring so many beautiful skies of every colour imaginable. The Chilean sky always knows how to put on a show.Trekking :: Carlos and I have tried to embrace as many trekking opportunities as we can as there are so many close by! Now that the weather is getting hot, we probably won’t be trekking until next year, unless we go to the cooler south in the summer, watch this space.
Looking up :: When you are in a new place, you appreciate and take in your surroundings so much more, seeing all of the colours and especially the more unnoticed beauty!
Mountains :: This one is no surprise, as I seem to mention the mountains in nearly every post I write. The mountains of Chile are just too beautiful!
Eating seasonally :: In the UK, i’m used to having fruit and vegetables from every country at every time of the year. But in Chile, I’m beginning to learn which fruit and vegetables we will find in the market in which month, and I love that that always changes.
Calling Carlos my husband :: For almost a year now ❤
Exploring :: Near and far from Santiago, both in nature and in the city. To Colombia, Peru and different places in Chile too. It’s been a great year for adventuring.
Soaking up :: I loved my two weeks back home in London in July and in eight weeks time I will be getting to spend two-and-a-half weeks in London too 🙂 I can’t wait!
Thanks for following along for the last year, it definitely helps during those homesick moments to know I’m not the only one on this crazy adventure!
Happy week ahead!!

already a year?and what a year!:)
Time flies when you’re having fun 😉
Time does fly by so fast!! Can’t wait for what is around the corner for year 2! ❤
Thank you!! I’m sure that they’ll be many more exciting adventures on the horizon 🙂
Aw, what a lovely tribute – looks like it’s been an amazing year! I LOVE that sunset photo as well as the idea of eating more seasonally. Although there are supermarkets here where you can have any fruit or vegetable (but never as extreme as it is in the U.S.!) in any season, most of them are not like that, but I like the idea of just eating the freshest and most local things available. Another plus: you’re super excited to see that fruit/vegetable again next year.
Thanks so much, Cynthia!! 😀 Yes, seasonal eating is so new to me but I love our trips to the market every Saturday and last week I spied watermelons, so melon season is upon us, yay!
What a fantastic adventure! I’ve definitely loved your Chilean sky photos… and I think I would slowly embrace whatever I could find at the markets, too. 😉
Thanks so much, Sara! The Chilean sky really is the best, it always surprises me 🙂
Congrats on your year! It looks like a great one & ive loved reading along 🙂
Thank you, Sarah!!
Wow, time has flown! Congratulations on your one year expativersary, that’s huge. I look forward to following along with what happens next 🙂
Thanks Rachel! I can’t quite believe it myself.
Happy 1 year in Chile! Hope the next years will be equally amazing and full of adventures. When I was doing a Spanish Course back in Brazil, my last presentation to conclude the course was about Chile. I had to read and search a lot about the country, and I just fell in love. I went to Chile 5 years ago, and I can easily say this country has a special place in my heart, can’t wait to get back there.
🙂
Thank you!! 🙂 Aww, that’s such a nice story, I love Chile too – it really is such a special place!
Congrats on 1 year already (and about 1 year of marriage too!). I cannot believe how fast the time as flown by, or that we’ve “known” each other for this long! I hope the next year brings even more adventures!
Thank you, I can’t believe it either! I wish I could bottle up all of my blogger friends and meet them all, that would be the best!
Congratulations on your year anniversary in Chile. It’s been such a pleasure following along your adventure – hope the 2nd year is just as incredible and with many more beautiful skies!! 🙂
