Today marks ten months living in Chile, so here are ten:
Ten adventures from the last ten months:
- Planning and getting married in our countryside wedding {Month one and two}
- Welcoming family and friends from around the world for our wedding {Month two}
- Honeymooning in Colombia {Month three}
- Looking for and moving into our flat {Month four}
- Starting our new jobs {Month four}
- Finally getting my Chilean visa and ID card {Month seven}
- Spending two amazing weeks in London with family and friends {Month eight}
- ‘Surviving’ my warmest winter yet, and not even realising that that was winter {Months seven, eight and nine}
- Camping in beautiful Cajon del Maipo {Month nine}
- Rediscovering Santiago and how it has changed since 2011 {always}

Ten facts that you maybe didn’t know about Chile:
- The world’s biggest swimming pool is located in San Alfonso del Mar, Chile which is larger than twenty Olympic swimming pools.
- Buying and selling fireworks in Chile is illegal.
- So is betting!
- From North to South, Chile is the longest country in the world at 4,600km long with The Andes mountains lining the entire length of the country.
- 40% of Chile’s 17.6 million population live in Santiago.
- Chile is home to the driest country in the world where it once didn’t rain for forty years.
- The biggest earthquake ever recorded hit Valdivia, Chile in 1960, measuring 9.5 on the richter scale. Luckily, Chilean buildings are extremely prepared for earthquakes and tremors as they happen so frequently.
- Chile has two Nobel Prize winners, both in literature.
- Chile has a government supported UFO research facility.
- Chile celebrate their national holiday on 18th September.

Time flies!! It’s a shame about fireworks, but of course, they still have the big public displays!
I have learned so much about Chile thanks to this post – fascinating that 40% of the population lives in the capital… that’s huge! Happy ten months! Despite it being the first ten months where a lot of expats face difficulties, it seems yours have gone so beautifully with smooth sailing! Oh, and now I only want to visit Chile even moooore 😉

I really think that when your partner is from the country you are moving to, everything is so much smoother at the beginning as he already knew everything about how things operate in Chile, plus I could slot straight into his family and friends, which I am eternally grateful for! 🙂

So, it’s just starting to warm up now. The mornings are still cold so I would recommend wearing layers but by midday and into the afternoon it’s around 22 degrees and very sunny, so it’s nice and like spring 🙂 You arrive so soon, and the temperature will keep getting better and better!
Ok, I need to wear layers and enjoy the weather, noted!

And you seem to have made the most of it 🙂 Last time I was in Chile was also 2011 and I look forward to going back one day and see how much its changed!

I have learned a lot today! How strange that you can’t buy and sell fireworks, although in the interests of keeping all one’s fingers intact that’s probably quite a good thing. I didn’t know Chile was quite so geologically active, have you experienced many earthquakes so far? What do you do??

I’ve prob felt about 4 since being here this time but they were tremors that nobody bats an eye lid about. Chile is one of the most active countries in the world with well over 1,000 per year which is insane!! But it’s verrrrry very prepared as they have laws on how homes are constructed so that they move with the tremors.
