I don’t remember when I fell in love with street art, but it happened and I adore it!
Street art adds so much character and colour to a place, especially when there are several walls covered with it. I love seeing the different styles and the theme of the art, and how it varies from city to city. Street art is definitely enough to make you fall head over heels for a new city. Here, are some of my very favourites.
Valparaíso, Chile.
Where better to start that the city that really is home to street art! I love this house totally decorated, and in my favourite colour too!Cartagena de Indias, Colombia
I spotted this huge and beautiful piece on the first day of our honeymoon, it was a sign of good things to come in the wonderful city of Cartagena!Shoreditch, London, UK
Shoreditch has so much street art, and so many different styles too. I love the textures in this one and those telling eyes too.Valle de Elqui, Chile
Such a bright and colourful one in the middle of Valle de Elqui.Marseille, France
The shutters of this cafe were covered in a huge mural with lots of Latin flavour! I’d love to see the real Cuba one day.Berlin, Germany
When in Berlin, we found an online guide that told you the places to find the best street art. It lead us here first, look how much street art you can see in both the fore and background.Brockley, London, UK
Love the style of this one, I saw this during the Brockley Street Art Festival, and loved it immediately. Valparaíso, Chile
Another great one spotted in Valparaíso, outside a hostel. Shoreditch, London, UK
This is such a famous one that can be found all over Instagram. The size of it is crazy, and what is not to love about an entire building that’s been painted?Valle de Elqui, Chile
Beautiful colours and unique design outside a shop in Valle de Elqui.Shoreditch, London, UK
Another one that’s taken over a whole building. This really is an amazing piece of art!Valparaíso, Chile
One that could never fail to make you smile! Especially on the sunniest of Autumn days! This girl radiates joy!Berlin, Germany
So gutted that this veggie place was shut when we went past, as if the food is anything like the outside, it must be great! I loved the wrinkle lines on the face.San Francisco, USA
I haven’t been (yet!) but my mum captured this amazing one of peacock feathers.Brockley, London, UK
The most popular one in Brockley, those eyes look so real and say oh so much!Shoreditch, London, UK
This had been freshly painted as when I saw it there was still wet paint on the floor. And what an amazing and vibrant piece it is!Valparaíso, Chile
I love this one because it combines both paint and mirror mosaics. I love those that use mixed media!Where’s the best street art you’ve seen?

Awesome post!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
These are my favourites of your posts. South America made me fall in love with street art too and it’s great to see the latest from Valparaiso. Such a beautiful, colourful collection of photos!
Thanks so much!! Is there much street art in Lima? (please say yes, hehe)
He he – it’s got nothing on Valparaiso 😉 but I’ve got some pics of some beautiful street art from a day wandering in the Barranco district. Definitely another place worth a visit.
Great, I’m excited! Thanks for the tip!
Beautiful photos as always, Marcella! I also love the idea of a travel link-up and would love to join in. Couple of questions: do we have to link-up on Wednesdays only or any day from Wed to Wed? Also, does the theme change every week, i.e. it Street Art is the theme of this week? Sorry for silly questions, still learning all the blogging rules. 🙂 xoxo, nano
Thanks so much, Nano! We would love for you to join our link up!! The link is open for 7 days so you can link up anytime from the Wednesday onwards. As for a theme, you can write about anything and everything travel or expat related. We don’t run any themes, I just chose to write about street art this week 🙂
Chile seems to be THE hot spot for street art! Do you know why it’s so popuar in Valparaiso? Anyway, it’s totally stunning 🙂
Very good question, and I don’t know why but I guess that it probably started out with a few murals and then it just grew and grew. That part of Valpo is a UNESCO site so you have to get permission to do any street art, which means they are of the highest quality! 🙂
This is like a street art tour of the world, fantastic! I love looking at all the really inventive works in the favelas in Brazil, have you seen the piano staircase? #wanderfulwednesday
So glad you enjoyed it 🙂 I have seen the piano staircase in Valparaiso, is that the one you mean? Or is there also a similar one in Brazil?
Ah yes you’re right, I saw it on a documentary about favelas in Brazil, they must have just shown it as a really inventive example elsewhere! However I just Googled and there now seem to be piano staircases all over the world!! Youve got me interested now…
Ohh, I bet there are some really amazing ones 🙂 I love the ones in Valparaíso!
I adore street art as well – even little things – there were some amazing treasures to find on the walls and street signs in Florence, Italy! Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Copenhagen – also great for street art! See a little here – http://bit.ly/onthesurface #wanderfulwednesday
Totally agree, the little touches add so much flavour and charm! Off to check out your street art now 🙂
I don’t like all street art. Well, some is just graffiti and vandalism to be honest while there are also great examples of good street art (like in your photos).
Totally agree with you! Street art is only good when it’s a piece of art, rather than vandalism. There is a very important difference, thanks for highlighting it 🙂
:))
Great tour of amazing street art! #WanderfulWednesday
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I really enjoyed this and love the differences between the street art in the various places you’ve featured. I think you’re living in the right city – the street art in Valparaiso is the most beautiful although I like the blue/green woman on the wall of Brockley too. #WanderfulWednesday
Thank you, so pleased you liked it! That reminds me that I should write a post about street art in Santiago, as I haven’t done that yet 😉 As for Valparaiso, it’s just spectacular!!
I’m sorry – it completely passed me by that you’re actually living in Santiago, not Valparaiso! I’d love to see your photos of the street art there too.
There is also great street art in Santiago, so thanks so much for the reminder 🙂 Will photograph it soon!!
The street art in South America is so vibrant and colourful! I’ll include a mention for Brighton, UK as a good place to see street art.
Oh yes – the street art walking tour in Brighton is awesome!
Sounds great! 🙂
It really is so colourful 🙂 I love the colours of Brighton too!!
This is such a fun post! One of the ways that I feel like you really get to know a city is through food and street art! It’s always so colorful and beautiful!
Thanks so much! Totally agree 🙂 They are the more ‘local’ ways to see a place, and they tell us so much!
I’m a big fan of street art as well and really enjoy exploring a new place through the eyes of local street artists. I’ve heard the street art in Berlin is ah-mazing. Haven’t been but its on my list as well as Wynwood in Miami 🙂
You always feature some really great murals on your Insta! 🙂 Berlin’s street art is insane as there is so much of it and some reaaaaally huge murals!
Thanks for posting! I enjoyed the street very much!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun post to put together 🙂
These pics look awesome. I remember that few months ago I came across a huge graffitti on the wall of one of the buildings in Bielsko (a city in the south part of Poland). Really cool one showing a man from the II World War.
I hope you remember me 🙂 Here I am back on track again 🙂
http://www.travelekspert.com/2016/06/around-bali-in-one-day.html
Thank you!! That sounds amazing, I wish I could see street art everywhere! I remember you 🙂 Glad you are back!
I am flattered :)))))
I LOVE urban street art! some of the cities you’ve mentioned I know are famous for their street art, but others surprised me! Valparaiso i’ve heard amazing things about in terms of urban art.
Glad I got to show you some different ones 🙂 I love seeking out street art!! Valparaiso is one of my favourite cities in the world, it’s seriously amazing!
You always find the best street art!! I’ve been waiting for a nice sunny day in Santiago to wander around and find some, so I may have to drag you along with me! I also didn’t see too much of it in Valpo since I was only there one day, but your pictures help me realize I need to go back again! Love these posts by you Marcella! They always make me so happy 😀
Thanks so much!! Street art happiness is contagious, I think 😉 But really in Valpo you can see the best street art in one day, easily so maybe we need to go together and I’ll show you where to go! As for Stgo, there are some great places that I’ve been meaning to photograph too!
This post is so fun! Loved seeing all of the street art! I think my favorite was the one from Shoreditch, London. So pretty! 🙂
Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Shoreditch is full of amazing street art, you can find so much of it 🙂
The best street art I’ve seen has been in Philly and Berlin. I’m fascinated by the abilities of the artists to create such beautiful things in the middle of cities!
It’s so amazing, they make it look so easy!
I can see why you like street art so much. These scenes are a blast of color. I am getting into street art a lot too. I have discovered some great places in Los Angeles. Hope I can put a post together soon.
I’ve heard of some amazing ones in LA so would love to see a post of them! 🙂
Such beautiful shots!!! I was so impressed by the Street art in Lisbon, apparently the municipality has a special department for this that incentivizes the use of street art! So amazing!
Thank you! Oooh, I love that idea, it sounds so positive 🙂
Street art is such a beautiful aspect of visiting a new place. I love all of these shots! h
Thanks so much! It’s great to find so many people who agree with the beauty of street art!
Love it – we are clearly in great company adoring street art. I love its vibrancy and how every piece is so different. Great post!
Thanks Jessi! I’m excited to see which new street art has sprung up in London 🙂
So happy I found this! Chile looks absolutely stunning- so many birds… You have to visit New Orleans if you love street art. My favorite is two huge geometrical seahorses in love. Adorable. OO and some Banksy!
Thank you! Oooh, that sounds amazing 🙂 And yes, I love Banksy too!!
