There is nothing better than wandering around a city; a city that is brand new to you, or a city that you have known for years. I love wandering with no idea of what I might find, or what is hidden around the next corner.
I have the most terrible sense of direction so even If I do have a plan of where I want to go, I wander anyway. So so many of my favourite cities have made their way into my heart because they are the best cities for not knowing what you will find next. I simply love just to stumble upon a picturesque looking house, a cute lunch spot, a piece of art or a stunning view. I think these things are even more wonderful when you don’t expect to find them. So, what might you find when you wander?
The streets themselves may be beautiful (Valparaíso, Provence + Berlin )
The houses surrounding them, also (Cartagena de Indias, Buenos Aires + Varanasi)
Not to mention those famous features that you might stumble upon (Berlin, Rome + Rio de Janeiro)
Then of course, you are likely to find somewhere to stop, rest and re-fuel (Rome + Berlin)
And who said cities are always blocks of concrete? (London, Viña del Mar, Buenos Aires + Prague)
Street art can also be kept secret (London, Valparaíso + Marseille)
And of course, you may just find a souvenir to take home with you (Jaipur, Kathmandu + Edinburgh)
Do you like to wander in cities? What do you love to stumble upon?

The colours in your photos are absolutely stunning! I really love that one with all of the bangles in Jaipur 🙂
Thanks Jess! I love finding colours while travelling, it really is one of my favourite subjects to photograph. Those bangles are gorgeous, aren’t they!? It was so tough to choose which colour to buy 😉
I share your sentiment about exploring new cities and new places! It’s quite addictive, always a play on the senses. I’ve always been fascinated in the South Americas and dream of getting there one day as so many do! I’m looking forward to learning more about Chile through your blog 🙂
Thank you!! I hope you get to see S America one day as it’s a really incredible, vibrant and varied continent!
Great pictures Marcella! I really think that you have captured one of my favourites way to discover a city, just walking around without having a prearranged plan. Well done!

Ooooh, fun giveaway! I’m a big fan of wandering – I agree you can discover the best things when you just follow your feet 🙂 My favourite recent London discovery was the huge Westminster Cathedral (different to the Abbey) – I never knew it existed until I stumbled across it one day, and it’s beautiful!
Definitely agree, Jessi! I LOVE that area of London, I feel like everything is so grand and there are so many intricate details on the buildings. After so many years in London, I always adored that I was able to find new places to stumble upon 🙂
There seemed to be a mechanical difficulty when verifying my wordpress account the first time!?
Hi, do you mean you tried to comment before?
Yes, I tried, and then it asked me to confirm my wordpress account by signing in. When I entered there numbers it came up with an error, so I never saw that comment. It was just minutes before this comment.
No problem! 🙂 Please email me at clemandmarcella@gmail.com as I couldn’t find your email address.
Beautiful photos Marcella. The colors on those houses are fantastic! You always come with such creative ways to theme your photography and I enjoyed seeing the different sights across cities.
Thanks so much, Karen! I love colourful houses so much, they are so beautiful and add so much character to a place 🙂 Thank you, I think that’s my favourite way of writing posts!
I am all about exploring and getting lost! I even like to bike around my neighborhood without a destination. Great post.// ▲ conundrumofcoitus.com ▲
That’s a really great idea! They have a bike system here in Santiago where you can get and drop off the bike at different points, I am really interested in trying it soon to explore in a new way 🙂
Every time you post pics of Valpo, I get so happy and excited. Can I please just move there already? I loved the colours in all your India pictures, the colourful rows of bracelets in the Jaipur picture ❤
I can never get enough of Valpo, It seems to appear in a very high percentage of my posts, haha 😉 Thank you, India to me is all about exploring!
I love your shot of the Kyoto gardens in London. It’s always a pleasure getting lost in a city – as long as it’s not raining and I have time!
I love those gardens! I actually wrote a whole post on them, they are such a great find 🙂 That’s true, rain can spoil a wandering day for sure!
This is such a great post highlighting so many wonderful places! Gorgeous photos, Marcella, and it would be great to get a promo code, of course! 🙂 Thanks for linking up with #TravelTuesday!
Thanks so much 🙂 I’m a true city lover. Great, I’ve emailed you about the app!
Marcella, there are so many lovely photos in here. I am one of those who love to wander around cities. I trace a rough schedule around certain neighborhoods but end up deviating like a thousand times because I see a lot of interesting things. I have found great places or met nice people in that way.
Sounds perfect to me! I think you always see the best things, and meet the best people when you change your route 🙂 I’ve just sent you an email about the giveaway!
Wow, I love all the photos! It’s so hard to keep to a strict route when exploring a city and the best way is to just wander! #TravelTuesday
Thanks so much! I 100% agree. I couldn’t find your email on your blog, please could you email me at clemandmarcella@gmail.com and I’ll send you an email about the prize 🙂
This is an awesome round up of photos! Great travel inspiration. Wandering leads to finding the best places – thanks for sharing!!
Thanks so much! Glad that I gave you some inspiration. I sent you a message via your contact form about the giveaway 🙂
Gorgeous photos as always! I definitely love walking as well – best way to discover little hidden corners, to see how locals live, find authentic food, the whole shebang! Is that picture of you near the archway in leaves in Prague? I’m obsessed with that archway now haha
Thanks Camila! It is so pretty, isn’t it? As we went in Autumn, everywhere was covered in those bright red leaves, it really was magical!! 🙂 That archway was just by the castle on the top of the hill. Just after taking the photo, we saw a guy propose – it was a very pretty setting for a bit of romance! (I’ve sent you an email about the giveaway)
I always love your round-up posts like these with a bunch of different pictures from all over the world! That picture of a cafe in Berlin with the big eye really caught my eye, haha! I totally agree that you find the best hidden gems when wandering. 🙂
Thanks Anna! They really are my favourite to put together. That cafe was so cool, we wandered down some random stairs and round a corner, and there it was! A true hidden gem with such fun and quirky street art surroundings 🙂 I’ve emailed you about the app.
Yes, that’s my most favourite part is just wandering a city – not only do you get to see more of it but I think you can find places you were’nt expecting. Great photos as always. Thanks for linking up with #MondayEscapes
