I can’t count how many times over the past few weeks people have asked me how I feel about moving to Chile. I usually reply with a face like this…
and mumble something about how I am a mix of every emotion at the moment, and also the fact that I still don’t feel like I am leaving! So, I thought It’d be fun to put together a post describing my feelings, through photos taken around the world.
A few times people have wished my Happy Travels as they maybe think I will be spending the next few years at the beach or up a mountain, something like this…
But anyway, before I even get there. It’s time to start packing, which I have started already but it feels something like this…
Then, it’s time to leave London and say goodbye to my family at the airport, but not for long as they will arrive seven weeks later for three weeks in Chile to celebrate our wedding. So, time to prepare for the crazily long journey across the ocean to Chile, where I wish I would be smiling like this…
But actually, I feel more like this…
I’ll smile from ear-to-ear as I see the beautiful mountains from the plane window, like this…
Then when I arrive I’ll step off the plane into spring, where Chileans will be saying it’s cold and will be dressed like this…
However, for me, Chilean spring feels like English summer so I will be dressed like this…
Then, time to catch up on sleep and wake up feeling refreshed like this…
Before adopting the nod and smile routine as I transition back into Spanish everything, so my face will look something like this…
This is when the mountains of food will begin as a welcome party from Carlos’ family and I will eat everything, and resemble something like this…
So, that’s kind of how I am feeling! 😉 Can you relate to any of these?
Marcella xx
Possibly my favourite post to date! Loved every part.x
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂 It was fun to find the photos to go with each part!
I LOVED this post Marcella!! It is just so cute and I smiled through the whole thing! The difference in dressing and weather perceptions was so funny. I know I already said this, but I wish you the best of luck on your move!! That is so cool that your family will be flying down there soon 🙂
Thanks so much, Anna!! Haha – Carlos’ family always used to ask me if I was cold because I was wearing a tshirt while they were all in jumpers but for me, it felt like the hottest days we get in the UK!! I’m so excited for my family, and 6 of my friends to come for our wedding, it makes leaving easier as I know I’ll see them really soon 🙂
Yup, I’m moving soon too. I’ve made all these faces and more.
So many more! Where are you moving to?
I’m Irish/Australian living in Viet Nam, moving to Bangladesh. Lived in Switzerland before.
It gets easier after the first few times.
Ah cool! I moved to Chile before so it’s definitely not moving to the unknown, which makes to easier 🙂
Hehe – such a cute post!
Thanks Jessi 🙂 Glad you liked it!
An amazing collection of lovely photos. Really worth reading post here 🙂
Thank you, Madeeha! 😀
That is exactly my face when I am in Slovenia and everything is in Slovenian. Wish you the best of luck!!! I’m so excited!! Can’t wait for more updates 🙂
Haha, we’ve all been there 😉 Thanks so much! I really hope you are doing ok in Mexico x
I love this post, it’s so original. Packing is such a chore for me, no matter how early I try to finish the task I always end up packing until the last moment. You get two summers this year, how lucky 🙂
Aww, thank you so much! The thing about packing this time is that I am packing everything so it doesn’t take too long to choose outfits etc as it’s my whole wardrobe 😉 Yes!! I am so excited that I miss winter, yay!
What a perfect post! I am so excited that I get to follow along with your journey to Chile. You’re living one of my dreams for sure! I would make many of these faces. In fact, I have a moving picture of me with a giant uhaul box on my head. That’s exactly how moving makes me feel. Ha!
Thank you Amanda!! Haha, that sounds like a great photo and something we can all relate to 😉
Ahh I love this! All of your travels look amazing! I hope Chile goes incredibly well for you and good luck!! xx
Thank you so much Lauren 🙂 x
I can’t relate to any of these – I hardly get to go anywhere! Oh how lucky you are to be able to travel so much! My wanderlust is something desperate right now….
Thank you. Most of my travels were from years ago now so it’ll be great to be on a plane again 🙂
ha! This post reminds me very much of when I moved from California to Singapore, also to get married and live. Congratulations and best of luck with everything! I also lol’d at the part about the weather. 🙂
Thank you so much 🙂 Haha, I am already preparing for the weather shock as people worry that I will be cold for only wearing a tshirt 😉
Lovely post! There are no words to describe what moving abroad really feels like – only those who have done it can really understand the mixed bag of emotions that come with it #MondayEscapes
Thank you Keri! On this occasion, I could only portray my feelings through photos, as you are so right; there aren’t enough words! Thanks for reading 🙂
I can definitely relate to this post. 🙂 I think most of us who once moved abroad went through similar phases. 🙂 Good luck on your new adventure! I don’t doubt it will be amazing! 🙂
#MondayEscapes
Thanks so much Urska! It’s so great to ‘meet’ so many other who have been through the same roller coaster of emotions 🙂
You nailed it! I am also one of the many who moved abroad to get married. I can relate to all of it, especially the part about Chileans and the weather. Brazilians from Rio or Vitoria are exactly the same. I’ll be walking out the door in shorts, look around and think “Why is everyone wearing scarves and hats? Oh, it’s cloudy.” Good luck with the move! #MondayEscapes
Thank you Brynn! Yay, there are lots of us 😉 Haha, totally know what you mean! Chileans cancel plans when it rains, but in the UK we would never do anything if that was the case, haha!!
A great idea for a post. I do hope your move to Chile and wedding go well. Chile looks like a beautiful country and is yet another place on my ‘to visit when I’ve got lots of money’ list! #mondayescapes
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoyed reading 🙂 Chile is an incredibly beautiful country, I hope you get to see it one day!
Haha, I love that! People always have the strangest ideas about what living abroad is like 😀 but Chile really sounds fabulous and I bet you’ll have an awesome time there! Not wishing you happy travels but good luck and a safe journey instead 🙂
Thank you Van 🙂 Chile is a really great country so it’ll be great to get to know it even better!
The packing must be daunting. But if you forget something or you decide that you should have brought something different your family will be there soon to bring it to you. I hope the move goes well for you!
Thank you! Yes, my family will arrive really soon so they can bring anything that won’t fit in our bags 😉
Such a cute post – love it! All the best for your move 🙂
Thank you, Ellen! I’m glad you enjoyed the post 🙂
I know all these faces too well!
I’m glad so many people could relate 🙂
Oh brilliant post. I love how you’ve managed to find so many photos that convey your feelings! Good luck with the packing and the moving and the WEDDING! Wow, what a new adventure for you – can’t wait to follow it. Thanks for linking up with #MondayEscapes
Thank you so much 🙂 Happy to have you following along!
Love this!! Smiled through all of it! Can relate to many of these faces! Especially the packing one … Oh how packing gives me anxiety! Oh and can’t forget the nod and smile approach to Spanish … I like to also add the “Si.. Si … Si …. ” 😀
Thank you 🙂 Yes, I always answer ‘si’… when the answer isn’t always that 😉

hahaha oh i love it! I totally feel you on all these counts and the photos were brilliant – especially the readjusting to a new language face! Totally me in Scotland! 🙂
I think we all know that face too well! I’ve experienced the same thing in Scotland, sometimes I need subtitles!!
