The Perfect Combination

A place I can’t get out of  my head, is actually a combination I can’t get out my head!  That combination is water and mountains.  They go together like some other favourite pairs of mine; avocado and Marmite, picnics and summer, and weekends and walks.

I don’t know when my love for this combination began but my love for mountains I can pin point back to July 2008 when I spent nine incredible weeks in Nepal and Northern India.  The mountains of Nepal are just stunning, obviously.  My love of mountains then grew and grew as I travelled in South America for five months in 2010, if there was a mountain in the area, I was up it or photographing it.  My love for mountains was then firmly cemented when I lived in Chile for a year between 2010-2011.  Living in Santiago is so special because you get to see the mountains every single day!  As it’s a valley, there are mountains in every direction.  I used to admire them from my balcony, climb them at the weekends and sometimes wish for rain, so they could become snow capped once more.

But really, there is nothing better than a mountain view with water too.  I think it evokes feelings of peace and just how amazing nature is. That’s why, it really is my perfect combination and one that I just can’t get out of my head!  My top three most favourite of these combinations are:

I can’t wait to see more of this perfect combination on my travels and in Chile there are so many perfect opportunities for capturing mountains and water.

What is your perfect landscape combination that you can’t get out of your head?

  1. I’ve been to that very spot in El Chalten and it was incredible! Even flying into EL Calafate and seeing the colour of the water down there – loved it! I’m such a sucker for incredible landscapes – its a toss up between that an wildlife for me. But Argentina/Chile remind me a lot of what NZ’s South Island is meant to look like.

  2. It is a great combination and there are a lot of places in the world to explore with it! If you liked the middle of Chile, you should try Bariloche in South America, just stunning- set on a Lago Nahuel Hapui with the Andes in the background, beautiful. Lake Dillon in Summit County Colorado is another stand out! Beautiful place, and in the summer you can bike around it!
