This post caught my attention as Darci told us that the 5th August marked two years until Rio 2016… so exciting! That prompted me to go back through my photos from London 2012.
I will never forget the moment when I found out that London had won the bid to host the Olympics in 2012. It was 2005. Nobody thought that London would win the bid as France had been the favourites so it was even more exciting!
Years flew by and what had seemed like years away, arrived. It was the summer of 2012. As a Londoner it was doubly disappointing not to gain tickets to the Olympics, they were so hard to get hold of. All my family applied for different events but we weren’t lucky enough to get any. Anyway, we licked our wounds and went to check out the Olympic grounds on a sunny day, just before the games themselves kicked off.
The grounds were beautiful; stunning architecture, bright flowers, winding paths. They really were lovely.
A year later I was able to see some action in the grounds as I went to the Anniversary Games at the stadium. The atmosphere was electric and I can only imagine what it must have been like one year earlier.
Then, earlier this year I took a visit to swim in the Olympic pool.
What are your Olympic memories?

OMG I’m obsessed with your photos, they’re absolutely beautiful!! My one regret about my London 2012 experience is that I wasn’t able to get into Olympic park, as park tickets were sold out and I couldn’t buy any spare event tickets since I wasn’t a British citizen. 😦 Alas. And that’s SO COOL that you went to the Anniversary Games! And got to swim in the aquatic center! Aaahhh, seriously awesome! I need to get back there ASAP! 🙂
Thank you! Ah, that’s bad luck, those tickets were like gold dust 🙂
