Completos: Chilean hotdogs

The senses take you back to many memories; sights, sounds, smells and of course tastes.

This weekend we made Chilean ‘completos’ – chilean hotdogs.  Completos translates as complete and it’s because these hotdogs are loaded FULL of food.  They are typically sold on the street but can be made at home too.

You will need:

  • Hotdog sausages (veggie for me!)
  • Bread
  • Avocado
  • Tomato
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonaise
  • Mustard
  • Sauerkraut (optional)
  • A napkin – it can get messy!
  • Completo holder (only sold in Chile, see below!)
  • A big appetite

Put your sausages in the bread and then load in the fillings.  Finely chopped tomatoes followed by a layer of fresh avocado.  Smooth it all down and then squirt on the ketchup, mayonaise and mustard.  Done!  Enjoy.

Or, as I did for Clem’s birthday in 2011, one designed for children…

Which food brings back memories for you?
